KPMG International, Senior Manager
Led a group of trained professionals in an international corporate tax consulting group, to design, identify and implement cross border corporate tax structuring opportunities for our client base.
Responsibilities included:
1) training and managing staff 2) building and nurturing client relationships 3) billing 4) the identification of potential opportunities for cross-border corporate tax structuring and the sales process associated with the implementation of those opportunities 5) publishing technical articles 6) external and internal speaking engagements.
Associate Chief Counsel of the IRS International Tax Attorney / Rulings Officer
Notably was asked to join a litigation team to evaluate the hazards of litigation and legal issues involved with suing a foreign government for allegedly leaking private taxpayer information in violation of an international tax treaty with the United States.
Worked with the Competent Authority of the IRS on international taxation issues, Private Letter Rulings, and APA’s.
Arthur Andersen, Tax Consultant
Handled all manner of tax consulting and some tax compliance for multi-national corporations and high net worth individuals.
Most notable achievement was taking carriage of multi-year IRS audit of large privately held beer distributorship working with one of Baltimore’s most prestigious tax lawyers to represent client in front of IRS appeals officers to achieve favorable results for client.
Notable Cases:
Acted as Lead Counsel in FMF Capital securities litigation, resulting in the third-largest securities settlement in Canadian history, at the time.
Acted as court-appointed principal solicitor for the retail note holders of Asset-Backed Commercial Paper (ABCP) during the recent restructuring of the market following its freeze in mid-2007.
Successfully negotiated a process settlement with KPMG obtaining full overtime compensation in response to a class action suit brought by current and former employees of KPMG.
